Energie Fitness has officially opened the doors to its newest and largest gym in Ireland, with the launch of Energie Fitness Tallaght on Wednesday 15th April.
The highly anticipated opening marks a major milestone for the brand’s continued expansion across Ireland, bringing a premium, community-focused fitness experience to the heart of Tallaght.
Occupying one of the area’s most recognisable buildings, Energie Fitness Tallaght represents far more than just another gym opening. The iconic venue, formally operating in the nightlife sector and known as ‘The Playhouse’, has now been completely reimagined into a modern fitness facility designed to support members at every stage of their health and wellness journey.
Surpassing the gym’s Presale membership target before opening day, the response from the local community has already demonstrated the huge demand for accessible, high-quality fitness facilities in the area. At nearly 13,000 square ft, Tallaght is now the largest Energie Fitness club in Ireland - a reflection of both the ambition behind the project and the growing strength of the Energie Fitness brand across the country.
The opening is also a significant achievement for franchisee Narinder Kaushal, who now celebrates his fifth club within the Energie Fitness network. His continued growth within the franchise highlights both his long-term vision and the scalability of the Energie Fitness model.
Speaking about the launch, Narinder said:
“I’m really excited to be opening this new gym. My ambition is to continue growing step by step, with a goal of opening around two clubs a year, provided the right opportunities come along.”
For Narinder, Tallaght is not simply about opening another location - it’s about creating an environment where members genuinely feel welcomed, supported, and motivated to improve their health and wellbeing.
He added:
“Tallaght is such a vibrant community, and we wanted to create a space that felt welcoming to absolutely everyone - whether you’re stepping into a gym for the first time or have been training for years. Seeing the response already from local members has been incredible.”
That focus on inclusivity and community sits at the core of the Energie Fitness brand. The club has been designed to cater for a wide range of training styles and fitness goals, ensuring members can train in a way that suits them best - whether that’s strength training, functional fitness, cardio, or general wellbeing.
The gym features a carefully curated mix of premium equipment, expansive training zones, and functional spaces, all designed to elevate the member experience while supporting the latest trends in the fitness industry.
A key partner in bringing the vision to life was Matrix Fitness UK, who worked closely alongside Narinder and the Energie Fitness team throughout the project. From layout design to equipment selection and installation, the collaboration played a major role in shaping the final result.
Speaking about the project, Alex Nardell from Matrix Fitness highlighted the importance of collaboration throughout the fit-out process:
“From a project perspective, what really stood out was delivering a ‘wall-to-wall’ solution. That comes from collaboration - combining our expertise, Narinder’s vision, and input from the Energie team. It’s about making sure the layout works, the member journey makes sense, and that from day one, the gym is set up to perform strongly.”
That member-first thinking can be seen throughout the club layout itself. Rather than simply filling the space with equipment, the Tallaght gym has been carefully designed to create a smooth and unintimidating fitness journey for members.
Alex explained:
“When someone walks in, they’re greeted with familiar equipment - treadmills, bikes, ellipticals - which helps reduce any intimidation. Then as they move through the space, particularly into the lower levels, they’re introduced to more advanced strength and functional areas.”
This approach reflects one of the biggest shifts currently happening across the fitness industry - the growing demand for strength training and functional fitness spaces.
Alex continued:
"We're seeing a huge shift towards strength training. Over the past three to four years, participation has increased significantly, especially among younger audiences and increasingly among women. Education around the benefits of strength training has improved massively, and gyms are adapting their spaces to reflect that.”
In many ways, it’s quite fitting that Tallaght has transformed from a former nightclub into a gym, as younger generations are increasingly choosing fitness spaces as places to socialise, connect, and spend their time instead of traditional nightlife venues.”
That trend is reflected directly throughout the Tallaght facility, with the gym carefully designed to align with evolving member behaviours and modern fitness expectations. From expansive strength and functional training zones to a broad mix of cardio and plate-loaded equipment, the space has been created to support both performance and community, mirroring the wider shift towards gyms becoming social and lifestyle hubs for younger generations.
He further added:
“On paper, it was a complex project - the building is unique, with challenges around layout, levels, and ceiling heights. But bringing that to life and seeing the final result has been incredibly rewarding. I genuinely think the end product is exceptional.”
The project has also been a major milestone for the wider Energie Fitness brand in Ireland.
Cillian, Business Development Manager at Energie Fitness, said:
“Being part of this exciting project from start to finish has been a real privilege. Tallaght is a significant milestone for the brand in Ireland, not just because of the club’s size but also due to its anticipated impact on the local community.”
He continued:
“The transformation of the old Playhouse nightclub building into a premium fitness facility has been truly remarkable. Narinder’s and the team’s passion, ambition, and unwavering commitment to delivering an exceptional member experience has been evident throughout the entire process. It was a great experience to work with other brands and providers throughout the process to ensure that we were bringing together a next-level facility.”
With a strong member base already established before opening day, Energie Fitness Tallaght is perfectly positioned to become a key health and wellbeing hub within the local community.
More than just a gym, the club represents the continued evolution of modern fitness spaces - combining premium facilities, community-driven culture, and accessible fitness experiences under one roof.
For Narinder, however, the focus remains simple: continue growing sustainably while delivering exceptional experiences for members.
As he puts it:
“If you follow the steps and give 100% to the business, the results will come.”
